Last summer Andria and I were lucky enough to spend some time tasting wines in the southern Rhone. Chateaneuf-du-Pape is one of our favorite regions in that area so we spent many days scrutinizing maps, finding wineries, and chasing down winemakers whose wines we already new and loved. On a friends recommendation we tracked down this wine, unknown to us, and it blew us away. This hard to find winery is family run and small production. We stuffed our suitcases with these wines instead of our old favorites.
Robert Parker describes it well:
92-95 points Robert Parker: "The single-vineyard wine from a special parcel of old vines and a blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Mourvedre is the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet. Opaque ruby/purple, this is a brilliant wine and one of the stars of the vintage. Full-bodied, with superb purity, loads of blackberry and kirsch notes intermix with smoke, creosote, incense, and truffle. Full, powerful, rich, with sweet tannin and good acidity, this should be a blockbuster and drink beautifully for at least two decades." (10/07)
