Beaux Freres today is a certified biodynamic winery but this 1994 vintage pre-dates that by over a decade.

This is unique and stellar vintage for Tom Edsel of Beaux Freres. At first, 1994 was thought to be an average vintage with a short life-span. Much of this wine was therefore drunk in its early stages and only later did everyone realize what a home-run it truly was. The 94" is still drinking like an adolescent wine and has plenty of fruit dripping out of the glass. Please inquire for larger formats.
Here's what Mike Edsel, the winemaker, has to say . . .

"A freak from the beginning (yields were less than one ton of fruit per acre, and it was our earliest harvest by a good two weeks), this wine, which tasted more like super-concentrated Syrah in its youth, has now taken on the intense Pinot Noir characteristics we seek. The color remains an opaque purple, and the aromas reveal concentrated blackberry fruit intermixed with hints of cherries, cola, and toasty wood. Unbelievably unctuous, with extraordinary texture and remarkable concentration, it still tastes youthful, but is just beginning to turn the corner and evolve. This is a great classic by which we measure all other vintages. Sadly, with the dumbing down of consumers as to what great Pinot Noir should taste like, when a concentrated, super-intense Pinot is presented, people often mistake it for a freak. Freaks they might be, but this is what great Pinot Noir is all about. We believe this is an example of what can be accomplished in Oregon two or three times a decade. A spectacular, concentrated, super-rich Pinot Noir that should age for another 12-15, maybe 20 years.
Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020. (Tasted August 2002)

In 1994 we produced .89 pounds of grapes per vine yielding .98 tons per acre from 16 acres. The alcohol level was 14.8%, the pH 3.55 and the wine was aged in 100% new French Oak."
